At SBE 2025, the spotlight is on the electrification process of the built environment

The process of electrification of buildings is revolutionizing the systems, replacing traditional gas and fossil fuel systems with solutions based on electricity, such as heat pumps, electric heating and cooling systems, photovoltaic systems and storage.

This change promotes sustainability and the reduction of CO₂ emissions from the building stock, responsible for approximately 38% of greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere, contributing to the energy transition. A transition that is not painless, however, since in Italy it requires urgently addressing numerous critical issues: namely the need to adapt network infrastructures, which are often obsolete, the management of renovation costs and the training of specialized technicians. No less, the issue of grid management will need to be addressed, as the issue of the building can no longer be addressed in isolation, but vice versa as an integral part of a technological context where energy and data are two sides of the same coin and are the true protagonists of the CER.

Despite this being a challenging scenario, which intersects with the objectives set by EPBD4, there is currently no viable alternative to electrification, which implies that existing systems must be worked on as soon as possible to make them suitable to support this ongoing change, as had been hypothesized by an experiment promoted a few years ago by ARERA for the renovation of electrical risers. At Smart Building Expo this topic will be the protagonist of the Fair and will also be the focus of a high-level workshop, created in collaboration with the magazine Rinnovabili and which will see the participation of the main representatives of the supply chain, such as Marco Borgarello (Director of the Department for Efficient Use of Energy for End Uses and RSE Territory) and Roberto Martino (President of Prosiel). The meeting will be moderated by the director of Rinnovabili Mauro Spagnolo.
