The Real Estate World Takes Center Stage at Smart Building Expo

The Real Estate sector is increasingly focusing on the challenge of the energy transition — a crucial process to reduce environmental impact and improve building efficiency. In Italy, this transformation is gaining momentum thanks to incentives, regulations, and a growing awareness among both investors and property owners. Key strategies being adopted include the installation of photovoltaic systems, the implementation of thermal insulation solutions, and the upgrading of heating and cooling systems, often replacing outdated technologies with more sustainable alternatives.

Following the Superbonus 110%, Italian policy is now on the brink of important decisions regarding the implementation of the EPBD4, while the real estate market is doing its part by increasingly enhancing the value of properties with high energy certifications, such as Class A or B, which represent a competitive advantage. The challenges are numerous and demanding, yet it is becoming ever clearer that the energy transition in Italian Real Estate represents an opportunity to innovate, create value, and contribute to a more sustainable future — with the sector slowly but surely aligning with the needs of a changing world.

To highlight the fundamental role that Real Estate plays in the so-called “twin transition,” Smart Building Expo will host a major workshop on November 20, aimed at exploring the driving role that large real estate investors play in the decarbonization of the building stock — both through choices related to new constructions and, critically, in the strategic conversion of existing assets, within the broader context of the transition laid out by the European Commission through the launch of the EPBD4.

The spotlight will be on the real estate market and the potential implications for property values, as well as an analysis of the emerging demand for skills prompted by the sector’s transformation. The workshop will also address whether these skills are currently available on the market or whether there is an urgent need to introduce appropriate training paths to develop them.

Among the confirmed speakers at the workshop are Giuseppe Zaffino (Managing Partner and CEO of the Green and Healthy Building Business Unit at Greenwich), Roberta Albini (Head of Sustainable Investing Management, Southern Europe Region, Generali Real Estate), Silvia Ricci (Board Member, Ricci SpA), Cecilia Hugony (CEO, Teicos Group), and Angelo Donato Berloco (President and Co-Founder, E-Valuations).
