Molex at Smart Building Expo 2025: The Digital Ecosystem Accelerating the Digital Transition

At Smart Building Expo 2025, Molex once again confirmed its role as an innovation leader with the Digital Village, the “cognitive” building developed in collaboration with Enmasy/Lux Italia and Somfy: an integrated digital ecosystem demonstrating how interoperability between infrastructure, automation, and lighting can transform buildings into intelligent organisms, capable of adapting to people and environmental conditions.

The technological heart of the project is Molex Power over Ethernet (PoE), the solution that enables IT/OT convergence and redesigns building management by digitally connecting lights, sensors, shading, and smart devices. Compared to traditional solutions, this approach simplifies design and allows a reduction in installation time (up to 50%) and maintenance (up to 80%), while achieving 2.7 times better CO₂ emissions performance. The IoT CoreSync monitoring platform collects and interprets real-time data from presence, air quality, light, temperature, and humidity sensors, enabling spaces to automatically adapt to changes and supporting advanced predictive management models. The result is a truly future-proof environment, more efficient, sustainable, and oriented toward well-being.

The Digital Village tangibly demonstrates how it is possible to design and experience spaces differently: a place where cross-disciplinary skills collaborate toward a common goal. The synergy with Molex technologies addresses the major challenges of the sector: decarbonization, energy efficiency, comfort, human-centric design, people’s well-being, and the refurbishment of existing real estate, thanks to solutions combining simplicity, scalability, and interoperability.

Molex’s participation was further enriched by several discussion moments dedicated to the digital transition of buildings. In the talk “Smart Eco-system: the New Frontier of Digital Tertiary”, together with Roberto Mezzalira – General Manager of Somfy Italy – and Prof. Marco Imperadori – Professor of Design and Technological Innovation at Politecnico di Milano – Alberto Biundo – EMEA Business Development Manager Molex – highlighted “the importance of consolidating integrated digital ecosystems, where strategic alliances between partners ensure interoperability and simplify management experiences.”

In the dialogue “Future Proof Buildings and Real Estate”, with Dario Giuseppe Lucatti – Chief Business Development Officer at Italtel – and Simona D’Oca – Head of Sustainability JLL Italy – the contribution of digital platforms to ESG goals was explored, illustrating how the integration of PoE ecosystems is changing the design and management of real estate assets globally. In the discussion with Giuseppe Santoro – Technical Director CBRE GWS Italy – it also emerged that PoE today represents the simplest and most sustainable solution for new constructions and refurbishments, ensuring high performance even in terms of decarbonization, up to 2.7 times higher than traditional systems.

At Smart Building Expo 2025, Molex presented a clear vision: buildings that think, communicate, and improve quality of life. A trajectory that transforms technology into tangible value for investors, designers, and companies, accelerating the transition toward increasingly digital, efficient, sustainable, and human-centric buildings.
