Workshop
Electrifying the Future: Scenarios and Challenges for the Built Environment
The electrification of buildings is transforming the plant engineering sector, replacing traditional gas and fossil-fuel systems with electric solutions such as heat pumps, electric heating and cooling systems, and photovoltaic installations. This shift promotes sustainability and reduces CO₂ emissions, contributing to the energy transition. However, in Italy several challenges remain: outdated grid infrastructures, the cost of renovation, and the need for skilled technicians. Moreover, the variability of renewable sources requires efficient storage systems and smart grids. Despite these challenges, electrification represents an essential opportunity to modernize the building stock and effectively support the energy transition.
