Hopefully, this is just a temporary slowdown before a turning point. While the <strong data-start=\"406\" data-end=\"449\">digitalization of public administration<\/strong> is advancing rapidly\u2014unfortunately leaving some behind, such as the elderly and less educated\u2014<strong data-start=\"544\" data-end=\"575\">ultra-broadband connections<\/strong> are still struggling to spread and, even where available, to attract users.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"655\" data-end=\"1145\">On one hand, the central government is pushing for the digitalization of core services. On the other, <strong data-start=\"757\" data-end=\"831\">local authorities are struggling to keep up with the national strategy<\/strong>. Meanwhile, citizens see few <strong data-start=\"861\" data-end=\"885\">value-added services<\/strong> that would make ultra-broadband connectivity more appealing\u2014apart from <strong data-start=\"957\" data-end=\"978\">streaming content<\/strong>, which continues to drive up subscription fees. Yet, <strong data-start=\"1032\" data-end=\"1072\">there are far more valuable services<\/strong> that should be promoted, benefiting both citizens and public finances.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"1147\" data-end=\"1206\"><strong data-start=\"1151\" data-end=\"1204\">The Green Deal Is Dead, Long Live the Green Deal!<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1208\" data-end=\"1812\"><strong data-start=\"1208\" data-end=\"1240\">Ultra-broadband connectivity<\/strong> is undeniably the <strong data-start=\"1259\" data-end=\"1274\">key enabler<\/strong> for making <strong data-start=\"1286\" data-end=\"1305\">smart buildings<\/strong> truly operational. Smart buildings remain the <strong data-start=\"1352\" data-end=\"1418\">most effective, fastest-to-implement, and highest-ROI strategy<\/strong> to achieve the EU\u2019s <strong data-start=\"1439\" data-end=\"1464\">decarbonization goals<\/strong>. In fact, properly deployed <strong data-start=\"1493\" data-end=\"1515\">automation systems<\/strong>, tailored to the type of building and capable of <strong data-start=\"1565\" data-end=\"1602\">communicating external conditions<\/strong> as outlined in the <strong data-start=\"1622\" data-end=\"1657\">Smart Readiness Indicator (SRI)<\/strong>, could <strong data-start=\"1665\" data-end=\"1720\">single-handedly meet the 2030 CO\u2082 reduction targets<\/strong> for the building sector\u2014which, let\u2019s not forget, <strong data-start=\"1770\" data-end=\"1809\" data-is-only-node=\"\">accounts for 40% of total emissions<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1814\" data-end=\"2499\">Currently, the <strong data-start=\"1829\" data-end=\"1843\">Green Deal<\/strong> is facing <strong data-start=\"1854\" data-end=\"1876\">serious challenges<\/strong> due to <strong data-start=\"1884\" data-end=\"1927\">misinformation and misplaced priorities<\/strong>. There is <strong data-start=\"1938\" data-end=\"1983\">too much focus on vehicle electrification<\/strong>\u2014which accounts for less than 20% of emissions and remains far from <strong data-start=\"2051\" data-end=\"2075\">technological parity<\/strong> with internal combustion engines\u2014and far too little attention on <strong data-start=\"2141\" data-end=\"2164\">building automation<\/strong>, a <strong data-start=\"2168\" data-end=\"2214\">well-established, ready-to-deploy solution<\/strong> that could <strong data-start=\"2226\" data-end=\"2292\">support the implementation of Renewable Energy Sources (FERNP)<\/strong>.
